Truth in the Innermost Being
We don’t like seeing the truth about ourselves — so we try to hide it from ourselves and everyone else. The truth is that we are sinners through and through. Even when we do all sorts of good things, we are still sinners. We can be good and sincere people, and yet, we are sinners.
Down in the very core of our being, we are all sinners. Many people will vehemently deny their sinful nature. They demand that others see all the good they have done. But, they are still sinners.
When King David sinned with Bathsheba, he tried to hide his sin. But, the fear of having his sin discovered led him to have Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, killed in battle. Trying to hide our sins only leads to more sin. Denying our sinful natures is a sin because it is a lie. When David finally confessed and repented, he sang in Psalm 51:6,
Behold, Thou dost desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part Thou wilt make me know wisdom.
The wisest thing we can do is know and confess our hidden sins — even the ones we don’t know about. Those are the sinful tendencies in our “innermost being“. We need to pray that our Savior would always allow us the wisdom of realizing our sinfulness. If we get to feeling that we are not sinful, we think we have no need for a Savior. That would be denying Jesus Christ — and would be just another lie.
When we confess our sins to our Savior and ask for His forgiveness, we receive His forgiveness and are released from the burden of hiding our sinfulness. Oh, how we need our Redeemer! As forgiven sinners, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, help us to always face the truth in our innermost being, so that we may be unburdened from our load of sin.”
Love,
Margaret
