Crush Satan Under Your Feet

Crush Satan Under Your Feet

There are some things  we just don’t like to talk about.     Satan is one of those.     But, God brings up the subject rather often,  so it is something our Lord wants us  to know about.     Paul spoke  of some of the activities of Satan  in Romans 16:17-20,

Now I urge you,  brethren,  keep your eye on those  who cause dissensions  and hindrances contrary  to the teaching  which you learned,  and turn away  from them.

For such men are slaves  not of our Lord Christ  but of their own appetites;  and by their smooth  and flattering speech  they deceive the hearts  of the unsuspecting.

For the report of your obedience has reached to all;  therefore I am rejoicing over you,  but I want you  to be wise  in what is good,  and innocent  in what is evil.     And the God of peace will soon crush  Satan  under your feet.

We need not be surprised that the  “dissensions and hindrances”  Paul is referring to are right within the church body — which is supposed to consist  of those who love the Lord and desire to follow Him in truth.     We will come upon all sorts of  “dissensions and hindrances”  outside of the body of believers.     They will also be making out  like they are in fellowship with us — right where we don’t even want to consider  that they will be trying to tear down our faith.

The point Paul wants to make is that,  in this world,  we really do need  to be constantly aware  of all sorts of things  that will be underhandedly desiring  to tear down our faith  in Jesus Christ.     They will claim  to be spiritual and love God,  but they don’t want  to call sin a sin.     Referring to the love of God,  they will  “explain”  that God is okay with these sins.     But, they will deny  that they are sins.     They will be given some other positive sounding term  that is supposed to depict a freedom we have.

They will also slyly accuse us  of being “too judgmental”  in our attitude.     That accusation can cut rather deep.     But,  as we abide in God’s word,  we will see  that right on through  to the very end  of this world,  God is judging everyone  according to all the standards He has set forth  in His word.     God says we are to call a spade a spade.     We are not to call good evil — or evil good.     We will be judged  for twisting God’s word  in such ways.

As we strive to live honestly  in a right fellowship  with our Savior,  we will try to live  in a way that pleases Him.     As we truly seek  to live as God’s children,  “the God of peace will soon crush Satan  under your feet.”     We can rest in the fact  that the Lord God Almighty  will be taking care  of all that concerns us.     He watches over us,  and although He allows hardships and temptations  to come our way,  we can always run to Him  for the guidance we need  in every situation.

Remembering our Savior’s victory,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for Your constant care.     As You lead us  to our heavenly home,  all the kingdom,  power,  and glory  are Yours.”

Love,
Margaret
