With Such Sacrifices God Is Pleased
In the Old Testament times, the people of Israel had prescribed ways of continually making the sacrifice of praising the LORD in the temple for His greatness, righteousness, and holiness. They also made animal sacrifices as the prescribed way to pay for their sins. In a summary of Old Testament ways, Hebrews 9:22 says,
And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
When Jesus came as our Savior from all our sins, He shed His blood on the cross to be the absolute, eternal sacrifice, that made the full payment for the sins of everyone who looks to Him for forgiveness. Because of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for all sins, Hebrews 13:15-16 tells us,
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Because of God’s great love for us in having Jesus be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, it is only good and right for all of us the make the “sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.” And, it is only right that when we consider God’s love for us, that we “do not neglect doing good and sharing”.
In other words, “We love, because He first loved us” ( 1 John 4:19 ), becomes a part of our lives.
Taking time every day to rightly praise God with honestly thankful hearts — and taking time to do good and share are called a “sacrifice” because our sinful hearts don’t naturally have a tendency to remember to praise and do good.
Let us always remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us, and let that remind us to humbly give thanks, praise, and service to our LORD and God every day.
In the joy of being loved and forgiven, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD Jesus, thank You for faithfully loving us. Continually lead us in Your paths of righteousness and love.”
Love,
Margaret
