Do Not Incline My Heart

Do Not Incline My Heart
Without a single, tiny doubt, the LORD God Almighty does not tempt anyone to do evil. But, He does eventually leave those who continually rebel against His love, wisdom and urgings to do what is right and good. Knowing that, King David begged the LORD in Psalm 141:3-4,
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing,
To practice deeds of wickedness
With men who do iniquity;
And do not let me eat of their delicacies.
King David’s prayer matches up with what Jesus taught us in the Lord’s prayer in Luke 11:1-4, noting in verse 4, “And lead us not into temptation.” God does not tempt us, but He will eventually leave those who love doing evil and refuse to do what they know is right and good.
When God is no longer constantly urging them to take the straight and narrow path to heaven, they will sink further into their own sinful desires. That will lead to their eternal judgment, unless they come to their senses and change their ways to start following the Lord’s ways again.
Because this world is so deeply sunk down into all sorts of gross sins, we all need to daily and fervently pray for the LORD to guard our hearts, minds, mouths, and actions. We need to be proactive in being protected from every sort of temptation. The temptations in life are very real and dangerous. They are nothing to fool around with. Our eternal life is at stake.
Ever thankful for God’s faithful love and protection, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for being so true to us. Strengthen us to always remain faithful and true to Your sacrificial love for us.”
Love,
Margaret
