For This Very Reason

For This Very Reason

When a person accepts Christ Jesus  as their Savior  from the consequences  of all sin — no matter how young or old they might be — there is a definite change  in how they want to live.     The acknowledgment of God’s love  and holiness  moves them  to want to live their whole lives  to be like our LORD  in love and holiness.     They realize and love how glorious and excellent  the LORD is in all of His being.

When that happens,  2 Peter 1:4-8 explains,

For by these  He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises,  in order that by them  you might become partakers  of the divine nature,  having escaped the corruption  that is in the world  by lust.

Now  for this very reason also,  applying all diligence  to your faith  supply moral excellence,  and in your moral excellence, knowledge;  and in your knowledge,  self-control,  and in your self-control,  perseverance,  and in your perseverance,  godliness;  and in your godliness,  brotherly kindness,  and in your brotherly kindness,  Christian love.

For if these qualities are yours  and are increasing,  they render you neither useless  nor unfruitful  in the true knowledge  of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter is showing us  the growth  of a true faith.     As we keep on putting our faith  in the true knowledge  of our LORD and Savior,  God grants  to us   the gifts  of becoming more like a child of God should be.     So,  as we grow in faith,  our morals become excellent  —  our knowledge of God and true righteousness  becomes mature  —  then we gain more self-control  over our sinful inclinations  —  that leads us  to have the strength to persevere in life’s hardships  —  persevering leads to a true godliness  —  true godliness makes us kind  to others  —  and then  we are led  to a true Christian love.

What a marvelous process  of growth  in a true faith  and love for our LORD and Savior.     It makes our lives useful to God  so that our daily lives are lived to His glory,  whatever our daily jobs are.     In that love  we are at peace with God Almighty.

It is such a relief  to have “escaped the corruption  that is in the world by lust”.     Living in God’s love  gives peace  and salvation.     That’s when we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You so very much  for leading us  in living  to Your glory.”
