IF We Hold the Beginning of Our Confidence Steadfast

IF We Hold the Beginning of Our Confidence Steadfast

When we become afraid,  we get shaky  and our voice trembles.      We feel threatened,  suspicious,  and filled with doubts  for our well-being.      Christians are tempted  to lose their confidence  in the compassionate love  of our Lord,  when confronted  by all sorts of challenges  from this world.      Jesus told His followers  that they would be facing  all sorts of tests  of their faith,  but that they would be safe  in His care.

In whatever manner we might be tempted  to lose confidence  in our Lord,  we need to remember  Hebrews 3:14,

For we are made partakers  of Christ,  if we hold the beginning  of our confidence steadfast  unto the end.

When we first came  to a realization  of the depths of God’s love for us,  and our faith blossomed  as we became a “partaker of Christ”,  we greatly enjoyed a confidence  in what God has done for us  in Jesus Christ.      We need to hold  that very confidence  “steadfast unto the end.”      That confidence  is why we  “Rejoice in the Lord always.    (Philippians 4:4)      It is the confidence Jesus describes  in John 8:32,  “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

We should never let go  of the faith and confidence  that sets us free  from the fears  of this world.      We are greatly encouraged  in Hebrews 10:23,

Let us hold fast  the profession of our faith  without wavering;  for He is faithful  that promised.

God is holy.      He is faithful.      God cannot lie and because He has promised  to carry us through to the end,  we really need  to hold tightly  onto our faith.      We are not to let people  instill fears  and doubts  of any kind in us.      Because our confidence is in God Almighty  and His promises,  we look forward  to meeting our Savior.      As Paul says in Romans 8:23,  we are,

...waiting eagerly  for our adoption as sons,  the redemption  of our body.

Then, Paul confidently says to us  in Romans 8:37-39,

But  in all these things  we overwhelmingly conquer  through Him who loved us.

For I am convinced  that neither death,  nor life,  nor angels,  nor principalities,  nor things present,  nor things to come,  nor powers,  nor height,  nor depth,  nor any other created thing,  shall be able  to separate us  from the love of God,  which is in Christ Jesus  our Lord.

Now,  what more can we ask for?      When we are “partakers of Christ ,  we can face each day rejoicing  with confidence,  because our Savior is right beside us,  taking care of us  every step of the way.      We don’t have to frantically run and hide  from anything  because God is everywhere  and knows all things.      He is almighty  in taking care of us,  so we can  “hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast”.      It is love  that enables us  to hold “our confidence steadfast”.

We love  because He first loved us  —  and so we say,  “Hallelujah!      Lord,  thank You  for repeatedly assuring us  of Your trustworthiness.      You proved Your love  in Jesus Christ  and in coming to us  with the  message  of Your salvation.      What an honor it is  to be loved by You.”

Love,
Margaret
