Set Your Mind

November 30, 2019

Set Your Mind

Our Lord and Creator  has given us  countless gifts — even the gift  of a mind  that can reason,  plan for the future,  learn from experience,  invent,  solve problems,  form automatic responses,  and a host of other wonders.      We can even use our minds  for either  good or evil — being fully aware  of our intents.      Because God is good  and God is love,  He wants us  to use the gifts  He has given  only for all that is good  and loving.

I received the following email forward  that is entitled  “Good example of a Brain Study“.      It explains,  “If you can read this,  you have a strong mind.”      We naturally are curious  to prove  that we have a strong mind,  so here is the test  for your enjoyment.

( I forwarded it. )      It’s amazing  how quickly  it becomes a pleasure  to read this brain test.      The fact  that it quickly becomes automated  is actually showing  a tiny bit  of the glory  of God Almighty  in giving us a mind.      How we use this gift  becomes a part  of the story  of our salvation  and growth  in faith.      God’s word  often speaks  of the use  of our minds.      Just a few examples  include:

Colossians 3:2
Set your mind  on the things above,  not on the things  that are on earth.

Psalm 26:2
Examine me,  O LORD,  and try me;
Test my mind  and my heart.

Psalm 16:7
I will bless the LORD  who has counseled me;
Indeed,  my mind instructs me  in the night.

Proverbs 16:9
The mind of man  plans his way,
But the LORD  directs his steps.

Proverbs 17:20
He who has a crooked mind  finds no good,
And he who is perverted  in his language  falls into evil.

Proverbs 18:2
A fool  does not delight  in understanding,
But only in revealing  his own mind.

Romans 1:28
And just as they  did not see fit  to acknowledge God  any longer,  God gave them over  to a depraved mind,  to do those things  which are not proper.

Ephesians 4:23-24
Be renewed  in the spirit  of your mind,  and put on  the new self,  which in the likeness of God  has been created  in righteousness  and holiness  of the truth.

These are all awesome  and noteworthy  truths  to consider  when we look  at what we do  with our minds.      The results  of our thinking  can definitely  influence our lives.      That is why  it is vital  to pray with King David,  in Psalm 51:10,

Create in me  a clean heart,  O God,
And renew  a steadfast spirit  within me.

We are only a creation  of God.      We need His strength,  guidance,  and grace  to live  to His glory  in holiness — i.e.,  set apart  from the thinking  of this world.      Resting in His power,  we say,  “Hallelujah!      Lord,  Your word  to us  is pure and holy.      Renew us  in the spirits  of our minds  and enable us  to live  in the righteousness  of Your truth.”
