Planted in the House of the LORD

December 11, 2019

Planted in the House of the LORD

We know that every plant  needs to have  certain requirements met  before it can flourish.      The amount of water,  light,  and humidity  make a big difference  for each kind of plant,  along with  the type of soil and fertilizer.

We also have particular needs  for our growth  and health.      Most people  try to lead  healthy lives — at least to a point,  they do things  to try to survive.      But,  many people  have no clue  about meeting their eternal needs.      Spiritually  they get into  all the wrong environments  and suffer greatly for it.      They explore  various philosophies,  heathen religious practices,  cults,  sciences,  and false teachings  within  what they consider  Christianity.

As these people live  in these wrong spiritual environments,  they find it impossible  to realize God’s love  for them.      They think other people  seem to be “happy”,  but they are not.      They cannot feel happy  or at peace  in their hearts.      Their spirits  are not flourishing  and they know it.      What can they do?      They want to be pleasing  in God’s sight.      They want eternal life.      What’s wrong?

They are in  the wrong spiritual environment.      Psalm 92:12-15  pictures the right spiritual environment  for all those  who are searching  for peace with God.

The righteous man  will flourish  like the palm tree,
He will grow  like a cedar  in Lebanon.
Planted  in the house  of the LORD.
They will flourish  in the courts  of our God.
They will still yield fruit  in old age;
They shall be  full of sap  and very green,
To declare  that the LORD  is upright;
He is my rock,  and there is no unrighteousness  in Him.

The  righteous man  is the one  who trusts  in the LORD.      He is the one  who will flourish  because he is  planted in the house of the LORD.”      Believing and trusting in God our Savior  makes us righteous  in God’s sight.      When we believe  and trust  in God our Savior,  we are  planted in the house of the LORD.”

With open Bibles,  those who believe and trust  in the LORD  prayerfully study God’s word,  knowing full well  that it is God Almighty  teaching us  —  our Creator and Redeemer.      From God’s word,  our souls feed  on the truths  of His word,  grow,  and flourish.      That is  being in the  house  and courts  of our God.

As we feed,  grow,  and flourish  in God’s word,  the LORD  causes us  to  “be full of sap and very green,  to declare  that the LORD is upright.”      God’s word  gives us life.      It is the right environment  for all those  who want to draw near  to the Lord — having the peace and joy  of a soul  that is flourishing,  even during trials.

When we daily draw near  to God  in His word  to us,  we will joyfully declare  God’s righteousness  and stability like a rock.      Then we will know  that God loves us  and that He is a rock  of sure defense  for us.      Then we will be assured  of God’s love  and care  for us  in the midst  of every trial and tribulation.

God did not promise  that we would be free  from every trial and tribulation.      But,  He has promised  to be with us  and to carry us through  to victory,  as we put our faith  and trust  in Him  and His word to us.

As we enjoy being  planted  in the house of the LORD,”  we say,  “Hallelujah!      O Lord,  surely ‘the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life.      Graciously lead us  through that gate.”
