So Are My Ways Higher Than Your Ways
Many foo-foo the claim of Jesus being born as the Savior of the world. To them the Christmas story is just another myth that people like to use as an excuse to celebrate. So they arrogantly “tolerate” those who fall for such “fables”, as they roll their eyes and smile “knowingly”.
But, quite a few facts remain. None of these supposedly “knowing” people can create a seed that will grow into a fruit-producing plant. Neither can they create a universe — let alone a little meteorite — and keep everything in orbit for thousands of years. They can’t even keep themselves alive beyond the appointed moment for their death. So, their knowledge base is relatively non-existent in comparison to all that is in creation.
As Christians wonder at the onslaught of supposedly “educated” nay-sayers, we can take comfort in the LORD’s word to us. There are so many passages of comfort, amongst which Isaiah 55:6-9 can be included,
Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
As human beings, we all have a relatively short time to live on earth. That means we have a very short time to realize who and what we are — in comparison to who God Almighty is.
And then, in comes the miracle of Christmas. God still loves us all in the Christ Child. He tenderly tells the wicked to “forsake his way“, and asks the unrighteous to forsake his “thoughts“. All they need to do is return to the LORD God Almighty who created them, and redeems them in Christ Jesus. That’s not asking much. God wants to have compassion on absolutely everyone. God is ever so willing to pardon and forgive all of our sins for Jesus’ sake.
People are so filled with doubts, fears, bitterness, and hopelessness. They don’t feel there is any way they can really turn back to God and actually be forgiven. But, God basically tells them to knock it off, when He affirms,
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
That is an astounding truth. We are not God. God is God. He is nothing like us measly, decrepit sinners. We can’t think like God Almighty. He has a love that we can’t even comprehend. And His almighty love truly is willing to forgive absolutely all our sins, when we turn to Him.
And so, the Savior can come into our hearts, bring us to repentance, change our lives, and grant us the gift of eternal life. We are sinners — but, God can change us. God is able to make us His children through faith in Christ Jesus.
Those thoughts certainly are higher than our thoughts. And, God is able.
As we think on God’s ongoing love, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, the faithfulness of Your ongoing love is wondrous.”
Love,
Margaret
