God Is a Refuge for Us

God Is a Refuge  for Us

When David was king of Israel,  he faced quite a number  of enemies  who wanted to take him down  from the throne.      His enemies  had no respect  for the fact  that David was anointed  to be king  by the prophet Samuel.      In other words,  those enemies  had no respect  for the fact that God  wanted David to rule  over Israel  because David  had a good heart  that trusted  in the Lord.

These enemies  hatched plans  to murder David.      They pretended  to be a friend,  but inwardly,  they cursed David.      In somewhat similar situations,  Christians of today  are sometimes hated  for their faithfulness  to our Creator  and Redeemer.      There are any number of scenarios  in which unbelievers  try to take down Christians.      As we consider  such situations,  we need to realize  the same things  that King David expressed  in Psalm 62:4-8,

They delight  in falsehood;
They bless  with their mouth,
But  inwardly  they curse.

My soul,  wait in silence  for God only,
For my hope  is from Him.
He only  is my rock  and my salvation,
My stronghold;  I shall not  be shaken.
On God  my salvation  and my glory  rest;
The rock  of my strength,  my refuge  is in God.
Trust in Him  at all times,  O people;
Pour out your heart  before Him;
God is a refuge  for us.

Whatever kind  of precarious situation  we might be in,  we need to  wait in silence  for God only.      There is no other dependable hope,  refuge,  or salvation.      Two wrongs  don’t make a right.      As God’s children,  we are to depend on Him alone,  and do only  what is right  in His sight.

In the meantime,  as we wait for God’s help,  we are to trust  in Him  and pour out your heart  before Him.      As we pray  about a situation,  we must trust the Lord  and remember His love  and faithfulness  in the past — with us  and  in all the biblical accounts  that have been recorded  for our strengthening  and comfort.

As we remember  our Savior’s promises,  we need to also remember  1 John 4:4,

Greater is He  who is in you  than he  who is in the world.

Our Creator and Redeemer  is infinitely greater  than any puffed up power  in this world.      No matter what happens  in this world,  we are safe  in our Savior’s arms  through all eternity.

Therefore,  we praise our Lord  at all times,  and say,  “Hallelujah!      LORD,  thank You  for being our Refuge  and Stronghold.      Your righteousness  and lovingkindness  are our comfort  and delight.”

Love,
Margaret
