In Thy Light We See Light
In cartoons, when someone finally gets a bright idea or gains a true understanding, the cartoonist places a light bulb above the character’s head. The light was finally turned on. Eureka! I see!
The light turns on for us in many different instances in life. People discover ways to invent something, solve a problem, and make things work for them. There is joy in these discoveries.
Sometimes people think they are in the light and that they have a true understanding, but they don’t. They are mixed up with false religions, trying to save themselves with good works, adhering to worldly philosophies, or even thinking there is no God. When they realize that they’ve been going down the wrong path, and that what they thought was good really isn’t good at all, it can come as quite a shock. Often times their pride will make them hold onto and defend their wrong understanding — but, such pride will not help them — especially in spiritual matters, or if they had wicked intents.
When King David compared the evil works of the wicked and the abundant love of God Almighty, he sang in Psalm 36:9,
For with Thee is the fountain of life;
In Thy light we see light.
The wicked feel so knowledgeable and smart in all their conniving. They are so pleased with their evil plans that they stay up at night planning ways to outsmart others and put others down. They really think they understand how to be happy and successful. And, they actually love their evil plans. That is in direct contrast to the sacrificial love of God and His righteous judgments.
All of God’s word has been proven to be holy and righteous. God’s word can be trusted to lead us in the right way. That is why David sang, “In Thy light we see light.” If we want to understand rightness and goodness, God will teach us in the light of His word. When we dwell on the light of God’s word, we will gain the right perspective on all things in life. That’s when the eternal light of God’s love and salvation will go on for us. That will be our moment of “Eureka!” God did it all for me!
In the light of God’s eternal word, we will see the real light. Then, we will realize that in God alone is the true “fountain of life”. There is no other way to eternal life, joy, happiness, success, or other honestly good thing.
Enjoying the eternal goodness of our Savior’s teachings, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, You show us so many good things in Your word. Thank You for wanting to teach us and save us through the merits of Jesus Christ.”
Love,
Margaret
